McArthur supports call for debate over future of bull scheme

11.51.43am GMT Wed 26th Nov 2008

Responding to the call from the Scottish Crofting Foundation for a debate about the bull scheme issue, Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:

“This is a touchstone issue for the crofting community and it must not be swept under the carpet.

“Scottish Ministers must work with the crofting community to find an alternative to complete abolition of the bull hire scheme in the interests of safeguarding quality produce and a viable crofting community.

“Ministers must rethink their approach. A parliamentary debate about the future of the scheme would be a good place to start.”
