Finnie - Schools catchment row must be resolved

2.43.47pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 26th Aug 2009

West of Scotland Liberal Democrat MSP Ross Finnie has called on Glasgow City Council and East Renfrewshire City Council to resolve the school catchment dispute.

Hundreds of families from new housing developments built on the border between Glasgow and East Renfrewshire have been refused entry to St Ninian’s High School in Eastwood.

Commenting Mr Finnie said:

“The Councils of Glasgow and East Renfrewshire must resolve this issue sooner rather than later, the confusion and lack of clarity over the situation is quite startling.

“I will be writing to the leaders of both Councils seeking a resolution to this complicated issue that is satisfactory to the families concerned. I will also be asking why the issue of schooling was not considered when planning permission for these houses was granted in the first place.”
