First Minister forced to explain double standards on Royal Mail

4.43.41pm GMT Thu 29th Oct 2009

Commenting after challenging the First Minister to explain the SNP’s double standards on Royal Mail, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott said:

“Alex Salmond today demonstrated the SNP’s double standards when it comes to Royal Mail.

“In Scotland, as strikes could sound the death knell for Royal Mail the SNP Government has just handed an £8 million contract to TNT. Yet the SNP say “the Government must display a commitment to our postal service by using its services”.

“In March an SNP spokesperson was ‘bemused’ when UK Revenue and Customs gave a contract to TNT. When the UK Department of Work and Pensions gave a contract to TNT, the SNP said there was ‘outrage’.”
